S2 Pierce was one of seventy-four sailors killed aboard submarine USS Pickerel(SS-177). The Pickerel was lost with all hands, probably on 3 April 1943 off of Honshu, Japan as a result of depth charge attack.
He was born in Champaign, Illinois to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pierce, and has been awarded the Purple Heart medal.
