Nicholas, who resided at 506 Washington Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Seaman First Class on the U.S.S. Franklin (CV-13), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was declared "Missing In Action" during a Japanese air attack on the U.S.S. Franklin which became the most heavily damaged United States carrier to survive the war.

He had served in the Navy for one year and seven months at the time of his death.
