Having actually gone "Missing" sometime after June 26, 1943 the U.S.S. Runner is believed to have been lost on approximately the above date. The crew was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 2, 1946.

Delmont served as a Chief Torpedoman's Mate, U.S.S. Runner (SS-275), U.S. Navy during World War II.
He resided in Alabama prior to the war.
The Runner, while on a patrol off the Kuril Islands in northern Japan was declared Missing and was last heard from by U.S. Naval forces on May 27, 1943.
After the war Japanese captured records indicated that the Runner sank the cargo ship Seinan Maru on June 11, 1943 in Tsugaru Strait off Hokkaidō, Japan. On June 22, 1943 the Runner was attacked and apparently damaged by IJN naval forces. The Runner was also credited with sinking the passenger-cargo ship Shinryu Maru on June 26, 1943 off the Kuril Islands.
Delmont was declared "Missing In Action" when the Runner went missing somewhere in the Kuril Islands, Japan region during the war.
He was awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart.

The Runner was awarded one battle star for World War II service.
