Edward served as a Chief Fire Controlman, U.S.S. North Carolina (BB-55), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Windham County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Edward was one of three crewman "Killed In Action" during the Battle of Okinawa when the North Carolina, after downing three kamikazes, was hit by a 5 in (130 mm) shell from a friendly ship during the melee of anti-aircraft fire during the war.

He was awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart.

Edward was buried at sea.
