Son of Arsen Bockman.

Frederick served as a Torpedoman's Mate Third Class, U.S.S. Newcomb (DD-586), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Berlin, Coos County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

The Newcomb, while off Ie Shima screening minesweepers with the Leutze & Beale, was attacked by at least 40 enemy aircraft. The Newcomb was struck five times during this attack but was able to make the enemy aircraft retreat after downing a number of them.

The Newcomb lost 18 killed, 25 missing, and 64 wounded.

Frederick was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
