Henry served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-3), U.S. Navy during World War II.
He resided in New Haven County, Connecticut prior to the war.
U.S.S. Saratoga, while participating in the Battle of Iwo Jima, was hit by five Japanese bombs in three minutes and was then struck by a Japanese kamikaze and two other planes which caused considerable damage and loss of life. The Saratoga lost 123 of her crew dead or missing as well as 192 wounded.
Henry was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The Saratoga survived the attack and the war. The ship was awarded 8 battle stars for service during World War II.
