Edwin served as a Second Lieutenant on B-29 #42-6351, 25th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore County, Maryland prior to the war.

Edwin was "Killed In Action" when his B-29 crashed endeavoring to make an emergency landing at Hsinching, China after a raid on the Showa Steel Works at Anshan. Two engines were on fire and the B-29 crashed and exploded.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

B-29 serial 42-6351 assigned to the 25th Bomb Squadron crashed endeavoring to make an emergency landing shortly after the take-off from the forward area in Hsinching, China on the Anshan Mission of July 29th with number 4 engine feathered. The pilot circled the field twice, endeavoring to get the landing gear fully extended when #3 engine quit. The airplane lost flying speed, and crashed in the hills three miles from the airfield. Eight member of the crew, including the pilot, Capt Murr E. Skousen, were killed and three other crew members sustained only minor injuries.
