Son of Mr. & Mrs. John Byrnes Austin who resided in Hazardville, Connecticut.

David served as a Seaman First Class, U.S.S. Braine (DD-630), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Hartford County, Connecticut prior to the war.

David was "Killed In Action" when the Braine was hit in quick succession by two suicide planes during the war. The first hit forward seriously damaged the bridge, and the second hit amidships and blew number two funnel overboard and demolished the amidships superstructure.

The Braine survived the attack & the war and was awarded nine battle stars for her World War II service.

David was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was buried at sea.
