Son of Laura Gertrude Austin who resided in Stamford, Connecticut.

Arthur served as a Electrician's Mate Second Class, U.S.S. Braine (DD-630), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" when the Braine was hit in quick succession by two suicide planes during the war. The first hit forward seriously damaged the bridge, and the second hit amidships and blew number two funnel overboard and demolished the amidships superstructure.

The Braine survived the attack & the war and was awarded nine battle stars for her World War II service.

Arthur was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was buried at sea.

His brother, Pfc Albert W Austin, was also "Killed In Action" during the war.
