George, who resided at 1405 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Platoon Sergeant with Company C, 1st Battalion, 22nd Marine Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

On May 2, 1942 he married Marian Gail Peterson in Wilmington, Delaware.

He was "Killed In Action" on Parry Island, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands.

He had served in the Marines for eleven years and eight months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.

Son of Urban J. Jones and Esther A. Merkel Jones.

At the families request his state of birth was added to his headstone (Pennsylvania) instead of his state of residence (Delaware) as was normally done.
