Janz, Clifford Thurston; Lieutenant, Serial No: 0-070304, US Navy, Div E. Clifford was born on February, 19, 1910 in New York, the son of Joseph T and Edna Janz. On June 21, 1927 he was admitted to the US Naval Academy and US Navy Hospital, Ann Arundel, Maryland. On June 4, 1931 he was commissioned as Ensign, serving in Engineer W & D, Radar Officer on board the USS Arizona. Clifford was killed in action on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. His battle station was the Forward Dist Room. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Purple Heart Medal posthumously. Clifford remains on duty on the USS Arizona.He is commemorated on theUSS Arizona Memorial and the Memorial Tablets of the missing. National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. Clifford was survived by his wife, Mrs. Clifford Thurston Janz, 3637 Arizona Street, San Diego, California
