Holstein, who resided at 2611 West Sixteenth Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 27th Calvary Reconnaissance Troop, 27th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 17 1941, prior to the war, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

Holstein was "Killed In Action" on Saipan.

He had served the Army for four years and seven months at the time of his death and was decorated with the "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.
