Lt Harrison was a Hellcat fighter pilot with VF-88-, Air Group 88, aboard the USS Yorktown.

Lt Harrison was described in his unit's World War 2 history was described as popular and funny.

On August 15, 1945, Harrison and his flight took off from USS Yorktown to attack an electronics plant in Takahashi, Japan. When they took off from the Yorktown, the US was still at war with Japan.

As Harrison and his flight approached Takahashi airfield, the Yorktown notified them that the war was over. They were ordered to cancel the mission and return.

As Harrison and his fellow pilots turned back towards their ship, a large number of Japanese fighters attacked them.

Harrison was shot down over Atsugi Airfield, a small airfield south of Takahashi. One of the last fatalities of World War 2. Three other pilots were shot down also.
