George Washington Hallowell served as a Private, 103rd Ohio Volunter Infantry Regiment by Louis D. Watkins, 1st Lieutenant , 5th U.S. Cavalry Film Number M552 roll 43 Name Misspelled George W Holliwill. He mustered in Aug 1862 and went to Camp Cleveland, Ohio 18 Sept 1862. He mustered out 12 Jun 1865 by E.A. Folsom, Captain.

After the war, George and his wife Lydia "Giddie" Beery moved from Berne, Fairfield, OH to Tuscola, IL and then to Groveland, IA south of Osceola in 1892 with his married daughters and their families: Anna Hallowell Gebard and children [John A Gebard died 1890], Isabell Hallowell [John P Hagerty], and Jane Hallowell [Thomas H Swain]. Son Daniel came also but returned to Illinois and settled in Dewitt, IL.

He was the son of Benjamin Hallowell b 1787 Pennsylvania d Abt 1860 Ohio and Sarah Gamble b Abt 1793 Pennsylvania.

Siblings were: Benjamin, William, Oliver P, and Lewis.
