Richard served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-17G "Paper Doll" #42-106998, 751st Bomber Squadron, 457th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 23, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Salesperson and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17G #42-106998 left station 130 in England on a bombing mission to Bernburg, Germany. They were shot down by German aircraft and crashed near Annarode, Germany during the war.

5 of the crew members were killed and 4 survived the crash and became POW's.

Richard was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Richard also has a "Cenotaph" in the Host Cemetery, Host, Pennsylvania with his parents.
