Edward W. Hemmerlein served with the Army's Co. L, 376th Infantry Regiment, 94th Division under General Patton. He was hit in the right thigh by shrapnal during a maneuver near the Bannholz Woods, Germany. A medic placed a tourniquet . The men went on to fight. They returned and found Edward had moved and the tourniquet came loose and he bled to death. Place was not far from the town of Sinz, Germany. Edward is buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg. Plot H, Row 14, Grave 25. There is also a military marker for him in Haysville Community Cemetery, Dubois County, Indiana.
