Gerard served as a Private First Class, 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the New Hampshire National Guard on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in construction and also as Single, without dependents.

Gerard was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
