He was the son of Samuel and Sarch (nee Borowy) Garshowitz, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He was educated at McIlwraith Public School, educated Hamilton Central Collegiate Instituteand and educated Hamilton Talmud Torah. Confirmed in 1934 Beth Jacob Synagogue. During World War Two he joined RCAF 28 Jan 1941 and did his training Brandon and Montreal Gained wings 1 B&G School, Jarvis, Ontario April 1942. Joined 617 Squadron 26 March 1943 as w.op/air gunner. He was one of the RCAF members espically chosen for the successful blasting of the Mohne Dam in Germany on May 17th 1943. The leader of the operation, Wing_Commander_Guy_Gibson, RAF was awarded the Victoria Cross. The aircraft in which Garshowtiz served as wireless air gunner was reported shot down by anti-aircraft fire as it approached the target. The Hon. Vincent Massey, then Canadain High commissioner in London, paid tribute to Warrant Officer Garshowtiz's courage in a letter to his parents
