Casualty of the Great War, Jack served with the Indian Regiment, the 66th (Service) Punjabis, but was attached to the 6th Bn., The Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
He was 39.
He was killed in action whilst leading his men to the attack on Chocolate Hill at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, having already been wounded three times in the attack. He was born in Sitapur, India, the elder son of the late General Sir Robert Melvill Jennings, K.C.B., C.B.,Indian Army, of The Hermitage, East Bergholt,and Agnes Mary, daughter of the Rev.John Smith Gilderdale, formerly Chaplain of All Saints, Dresden, Saxony, Germany.He had been educated at Westward Ho! College, Devon and Sandhurst and was posted as Second Lieutenant to the Indian Army on October 6th 1897. He was promoted Lieutenant November 5th 1898, Captain on August 5th 1905 and Major on August 5th 1905.
He served on the North West Frontier, India 1897-98, including actions at Malakand, operations in Bangaur and those in Mohmand for which he was awarded Medal with Clasp. He also served in the Tiral Campaign 1897-98, operations in the Baru Valley between 7th and 14th December 1897 (awarded Clasp), then in China, 1900 (Medal) and back to the North West Frontier in 1901-02 taking part in the Waziristan Expedition. He first saw Great War service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.
He left a widow, Adeline Braund Jennings (nee Hartnoll) of 1 Hyde Park Terrace, London.

She was the widow of Dr Charles Forrester of Cairo and the daughter of James Hartnoll.They had two children, John Melvill Jennings born 2nd February 1913 and Suzanne who died June 23rd 1917.
