Noble, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, A.E.F., near Bois-de-Cheppy, France, 26 September 1918. Lieutenant Noble gallantry led his men under heavy fire in an attack through barbed-wire entanglements on the enemy positions before Bois-de-Cheppy. His conduct had a marked moral effect upon his men and he continued leading the attack until killed by enemy fire."
