Sara Nixon Fletcher, 85, of Cairo died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 at Southern Care Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Gordon Heights Baptist Church in Cairo with the Rev. John Paul Hasick officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Clark Funeral Home in Cairo.

Active pallbearers will be Trevor Perla, Jeremy Taylor, James Willis, Randall Riddle, Russell Yates and James Butler. The staffs of Southern Care Assisted Living and Hospice of Tift Area will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Fletcher was born March 20, 1925 in Thomasville to the late Charlie Dawson Nixon and Irma Gertrude Willis Nixon. She was married to Jacob E. Fletcher May 17, 1942 and was a homemaker and charter member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Wilbur Fletcher; sisters, Opal Grooms and Dora Bell Howell; and brother, Clifton Nixon.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Douglas Dolney of Tifton; sons and daughters-in-law, Donovan and Laura Fletcher of Cairo and the Rev. Jacob Brent Fletcher of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses, Micháel and Randall Riddle of Stone Mountain, Pamela and Brent Elofson of Crawfordville, Fla., Wendy Fletcher of Bainbridge, Shannon and Trevor Perla of Tifton and Shauna and Jeremy Taylor of Tifton; great-grandchildren, Chase and Amanda Harrison, Jessica and Steven Ray, Joey Stubbs, Saralin Stubbs, Joshua Riddle and Jordan Riddle, all of Stone Mountain, Winston Jerrell of Crawfordville, Fla., Kyla Fletcher of Bainbridge and Keegan Hyatt of Bainbridge; great-great-grandchildren, Rose and Mackenzie Harrison of Stone Mountain; one sister, Charlie Finley of Albany; and four brothers, Eugene "Buster" Nixon of Thomasville, Austin Nixon of Corsicana, Texas, Dawson Nixon of Snellville and Glynn Nixon of Thomasville.
