Ernest Henderson was the fifth son of William Henry & Annie (nee Blackwell) Henderson of 110 Arden Street, North Melbourne, Vic. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 8 July 1915 and embarked from Adelaide for active service abroad on 23 November 1915 per HMAT "Ceramic" (A40). He was killed at the Battle of Fromelles, aged 20 years, the same day as his brother, Leslie.
