Son of Michael Coogan of Post Office, Lara, Victoria. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 17 July 1915 and embarked at Melbourne for active service abroad on 15 October 1915 per HMAT "Wiltshire" (A18). He was killed in action at Fromelles, France, aged 27 years.
