Son of Andrew and Maria Barnfather of 60 Clarendon Street, Geelong. A carpenter prior to enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force. He embarked on 19 October 1914 for overseas and served with the 4th Light Horse Regiment on Gallipoli and France. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant with the 58th Battalion on 23 March 1916. He was killed in action while leading an attack on a German trench at Fleurbaix near Armentieres. He was 25 years of age.
