The first units of the 26th infantry regiment set foot on the soil of France June 27th, 1917. After a brief stay in St. Nazaire the regiment left on July 13th, by rail, for the Gondrecourt area, Regimental Headquarters, Supply Company and 2nd Battalion going to ST. JOIRE, 1st and 3rd Battalions to DEMANGNE-aux-EAUX.

Pvt 1cl Cuit R Hall was the son of Christopher Columbus and Minerva Elizabeth (Hornsby) Hall from Thayer, Oregon County, Missouri. Thayer is in far south central Missouri just above the Arkansas state line.

In the 1900 census 7 year-old Cuit is living with his parents, four older and two younger siblings in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama. His father is a foreman on railroad construction crew.

In the 1910 census 18 year-old Cuit was living with his parents and three younger siblings in Shawnee Ward 3 of Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, 39 miles east southeast of Oklahoma City. His father is a railroad laborer.

Pvt 1cl Cuit R Hall was in the Medical Battalion of the 26th IR. Americans weren't active at the front near Nancy until around November of 1917 so he must have died from some illness or training accident.

Pvt Hall’s mother was able to join the Pilgrimage for Gold Star Mothers and Widows and visit her son’s grave in 1930.
