Joseph, who resided at 1819 West Sixteenth Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Staff Sergeant and ball turret gunner on "Frank's Nightmare" (#42-5437), 401st Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, Eighth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 16, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted as being employed as an Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Joseph was declared "Missing In Action", along with three other members of his crew, when his plane was shot down and crashed near Hergarten, Germany during the war.

He had served in the Air Force for eleven months at the time of his death and was decorated with the Air Medal, Presidential Citation and a Purple Heart.
