Entered the service from Massachusetts.
----------
Second Lieutenant Lawrence Dwight, born 6 Nov 1896, was the son of Theodore Frelinghuysen Dwight and Sally Pickman (Loring) Dwight of Boston.
He grew up in Vevy, Switzerland as his father was in the diplomatic service. His mother died 23 Aug 1913 in Switzerland. Lawrence was sent to school at Schadmanns in Washington, a preparatory school for West Point. His father died while he was still a cadet and after this event, without any near kin and save for a few friends and one sweet girl, was very much alone in the world. He graduated from West Point 30 Aug 1917 (the class of 1918 graduated early due to the war), and was assigned to the First Trench Mortar Battery at Fort Totten, N.Y. He sailed for France 4 Jan 1918 with the dream of glory in the world before him, only to die of pneumonia at Brest, France on February 2, 1918. He was engaged, at the time, to Miss Harriett Sears Amory of Boston, to whom he left all that he had.
Soldiers of the Great War, Volume 2, Massachusetts, lists Second Lieutenants: Dwight, Lawrence, from Boston as Died of Disease.
