Walter served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Los Angeles (ID-1470), U.S. Navy during World War I.

He resided in Delaware prior to the war.

Walter was declared "Missing In Action" during the war.

Since the Los Angeles was not involved in any military actions during the war it is assumed that Walter was somehow washed over the side.
