Harry served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24D #42-40217, 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Jackson County, Missouri prior to the war.

B-24D #42-40217 took off from Carney Field on Guadalcanal on a bombing mission against Kahili Airfield on southern Bougainville along with 23 other bombers.

After releasing their bombs B-24D #42-40217 was attacked by possibly a Japanese Zero causing damage to the #1 & #2 engines and they crashed into the sea during the war.

Harry was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
