Husband of Margaret L. Cremeans who resided in Wichita Falls, Texas. Walter served as a Staff Sergeant, 36th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He was a passenger on C-47A #43-16114 that was assigned to the 8th Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 21, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

C-47A #43-16114 took off, with a crew of 5 & 4 passengers, from Finschafen Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea on a administrative mission to Noemfoor, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province Indonesia.

After takeoff this C-47 was not seen nor heard from again. All on board were lost.

Walter was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.
