The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that U.S. Army Air Forces 1st Lieutenant Howard L. Dickson, 30, killed during World War II, was accounted for Aug. 23, 2022.

Lt. Dickson lost his life in "Operation Tidal Wave" one of the most daring raids of WW2. Coming in at tree top level the 93rd attacks the Concordia-Vega oil refinery. The 93rd earns Presidential Unit Citation, all of the crews receive the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Lt. Dickson was a pilot flying his 21st mission without flying status (on rest time) volunteered as a gunner for this mission. During the flight to Ploesti he read Shakespeare's book "as you like it". After 50 years this book was found in Rumania. Lt. Dickson appears on Tablets of the Missing at Florence American Cemetery Florence, Italy. His body was never recovered.

Flown by Lt. Enoch Porter and crew (11) and briefed to fly in the lead element of the first wave briefed for White II, positioned as lead aircraft left wing on approach to target of opportunity White V , took direct hit from AA prior to target igniting Tokyo tanks. EUROCLYDON THE STORM was seen attempting to climb to 300 Ft AGL then broke in mid air before crashing in flames over a school at Plopu. Three of the crew were taken POW. Bombardier bailed out but parachute failed to open. Its believed that 2 gunners also jumped with failing chutes. Five bodies were never recovered. Only 2 crew were initially identified. Later Jesse Franks ID due to long search by his father.
