"Killed in B-17 42-38053 'Cap'n Crow' in a form up accident over the base. on 7-May-44. Target was Berlin. The plane had flares stored in the top turret and for some reason they exploded and the pilot ordered the crew to bail out The pilot Wright and Co-pilot Jack Raper were possibly overcome by fumes and passed out. The rest of the crew bailed out, in all 5 of the crew were killed." American Air Museum in Britain.
Ralph Wright and Jack W Raper are buried together. They are memorialized at St. Mary Ashby Church near Somerleyton. On behalf of Jack Raper's family. The grave and the church have been visited by Ian and Pat Mills.
