According to the direct Armstrong descendants in Gladewater, Gregg Co., Texas, Monroe Armstrong's biological mother, who gave birth to him, was Sarah Poland. She died in the early 1850s after giving birth to her last child, Monroe. Her husband, John Kittle Armstrong buried her on their property near the home establishing the family graveyard; she was the first burial in what is now Rosedale Cemetery in Gladewater, Gregg Co., Texas.
