Betty Ruth Courtney, 76, of 716 Tweed, Winfield, died June 24, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 tonight. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8.
A memorial has been established with the Winfield Soroptimist Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Courtney was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Wilmot, to Cecile (Maxwell) and Leonard Bailey. She was raised in Burden and graduated from Burden High School in 1943.
On Sept. 1, 1946, she married Ira Eugene Courtney in Hutchinson. They lived in Wichita, Dodge City and Gunnison, Colo., before moving to Winfield in 1963. In Winfield the couple owned the KNIC radio station where she was business manager until retiring in 1987. Her husband died Oct. 4, 1991.
Courtney was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Soroptimist Club, Sweet Adelines and Order of Eastern Star chapters in Burden and Winfield.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Courtney, Lansing, and Richard Courtney, North Kingstown, R.I.; two brothers, Don Bailey, Burden, and Maxwell Bailey, Winfield; a sister, Doris Lewis, Marion, Iowa; and three grandchildren.
