Industrial chemist Robert Willard Hancock, 91, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at Elyria United Methodist Village, Elyria, Ohio. He formerly resided in Oberlin, Ohio. He was born in Elyria, Ohio.

Mr. Hancock graduated from Elyria High School, Elyria, Ohio, in 1931. He played lightweight football and basketball during his freshman and sophomore years at Elyria High School. He was a cheerleader during his senior year. He attended Washburn College in Topeka, Kansas, for two years, before transferring to Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, where he received a degree in chemistry in 1937.

Mr. Hancock was employed by Sunshine Biscuits Milling and Dairy Division in Grafton, Ohio, for 42 years, retiring in 1975. Following graduation he was assigned to the Cereal Chemistry Laboratory of Grafton, Ohio, in the field of applied research and development. He was named corporate laboratory director at Sayreville, New Jersey, in 1970. He was a life member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists.

Mr. Hancock was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin, Ohio, for 60 years. He served as an acolyte and usher and a member of the Mary Lilly Society. He was active in scouting and served as scoutmaster for Oberlin [Ohio] Troop 102. He served as a volunteer at the Elyria Methodist Home, accumulating over 1,500 hours of service.

He was an avid fly fisherman and a longtime member of Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed bowling and playing bridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (nee Barton); brothers, John, Arthur, and Richard Hancock; and a sister, Elizabeth Heinzerling.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, Grafton, Ohio. There were no calling hours. A memorial services was held at Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin, Ohio. The Reverend Bryan Wilbert officiated. Contributions might be made to the Elyria Methodist Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria, OH 44035.
