Freeman Parris Kirby was born Wednesday, August 19, 1908 in Morgan County, Alabama, to Allen Monroe Kirby and Daisy Lavora Lowery Kirby. ~ He married Lillian Lee Vernon. ~ The children of Freeman and Lillian Kirby are Gurnie Lee Kirby and Lecil Kirby. ~ He was the husband of Verona Brent Russell Black Kirby. Mr. Kirby was the stepfather, to her daughters, Hazel Black Walker and Betty Wann Black Hammon. ~ Freeman P. Kirby

HARTSELLE - Freeman Parris Kirby, 78, of Route 6, Hartselle, died Tuesday at Falkville Nursing Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Overstreet and the Rev. Johnny Mayfield officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kirby was retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant in Decatur and was a deacon of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Verona Kirby; two sons, Lecil Kirby of Houston, Texas and Gurnie Kirby of Youngstown, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Hazel Walker of Hartselle; a sister, Pauline Eddy of Danville; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
