Father, George Henry Sharpe (B.A. Rutgers 1847); student in Yale School of Law 1847-48; admitted to bar and practiced law until he entered the Union Army as Captain in 20th New York Infantry 1861; participated in all battles of Army of the Potomac as Colonel of 120th New York Infantry and served on staffs of Hooker, Mead, and Grant; detailed to parole officers and men of Army of Northern Virginia in 1865; special agent of State Department in Europe in 1867; United States marshal for southern district of New York; surveyor of Port of New York; member New York Assembly and speaker of the House; United States commissioner to South American Republics; member of Board of United States General Appraisers; trustee of Rutgers; son of Henry and Helen (Hasbrouck) Sharpe, of Kingston.

Mother, Caroline Hone (Hasbrouck) Sharpe; daughter of Abraham Bruyn Hasbrouck (B.A. 1810, LL D. Columbia 1840 and Union 1841) and Julia Frances (Ludlum) Hasbrouck, of Kingston.

Yale relatives include five cousins: Alfred Hasbrouck (B A. 1844), Louis B. Hasbrouck, '81, George S. Hasbrouck, '04 S., Joseph J. Hasbrouck, '06 S., and Louis Hasbrouck, '11 S. Phillips-Andover.

Entered Yale with Class of 1878, joining Class of 1879 in fall of 1876; member Junior Promenade Committee, Linonia, Delta Kappa, Delta Beta Xi, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and Scroll and Key. Studied law in office of Judge William S. Kenyon in Kingston 1879-1880 and at Columbia 1880-81; admitted to New York State Bar 1881 and began practice of law in Judge Kenyon's office; practiced in New York City in association with Alexander & Green 1882-87; in partnership with Judge Kenyon in Kingston 1887-1896; had since practiced independently, at first in Kingston, and since 1905 in New York; county judge of Ulster County, N. Y., in 1898; chairman of Republican Committee of Kingston 1895-97; president of board of trustees of Kingston Academy 1915; in 1914 elected Republican delegate from First Assembly District of Ulster County to Constitutional Convention of New York; member Legal Advisory Board for City of New York and chairman of local board for Division No. 136 during 1917-18, member St. Nicholas Society; affiliated with Reformed Protestant Dutch Church in Kingston and New York City.

Married February 17, 1897, in Kingston, Frances Payntar, daughter of Abram and Emma D. (Shaw) Payntar One daughter, Katharine, the wife of Albro N. Dana, '20.

Death due to arteriosclerosis. Buried in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston.

Survived by wife, daughter, two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Ira Davenport, and a brother, Major General Henry G. Sharpe, U.S A., retired, both of New York City.
