Dixie Fugitt Carter, 83, of Berryville, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in a local nursing home. Mrs. Carter was born May 12, 1924, in Winchester, the daughter of Fred M. and Ida Russell Fugitt. She was a bookkeeper for H.F.
Byrd Inc. and a clerk at the Clarke County Treasurer's office, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester.
She married Allen M. Carter on Nov. 1, 1947, in Berryville. Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Kathy Orrison of Winchester and Susan Carter of Berryville; a sister, Jane F. Morrison of Berryville, and a brother, Byrd Fugitt of Winchester. A son, George Carter; and three sisters, Helen Reardon, Anna Lineburg, and Nancy Corron, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
