Services for John D. Nickens, 81, who died February 27, 1951 at the home of his daughter in Pumpkin Center, were held on February 28, 1951 with the Thomas Funeral Home in charge. A native of Port Vincent, he had been a resident
in Hammond for the past 30 years. He was the father of 13 children, 10 of whom are living, including five sons, Len B., Perkins and Bill of Hammond, Percy of Amite and Carter of Ponchatoula; five daughters, Mrs. Oscar Starkey, Mrs.
James Stewart and Mrs. Byron Rushing of Hammond, Mrs. Harold
Hampton of Jackson and Mrs. Alces Rodriguez of Ponchatoula; also survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Erata Ficklin Nickens; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Marchard and Mrs. Belle Causey; two brothers, Seab Nickens and Sid Nickens; 28 grandchildren
and 8 great, grandchildren.
