Death of Henrietta Beechy
This sad death occurred Feb. 13th at Olathe, Kansas. She was sick but thirteen days. She bore her sickness with patience. She was twenty-eight years seven months and twelve days old. Yet how short the time since we were children at the old home near Berlin, Holmes Co., Ohio.
Surely life is a great swinging bridge between the shores of today and the hereafter, resting on a single pier in the middle of the deep, dark river, as we near the great trackless ocean, from which no mariner has even returned. Her health has been infirm ever since her marriage. Yet onward and upward was ever her motto, with no holiday this side of the tomb.
Best, dear sister, rest,. Thy tireless unconquered spirit deserves an unlimited furlough beyond the sea. None ever knew thee as cold snows of winter will cover thy grave and rest upon the noblest heart that was over stilled in death.
Spring will come: the long, lank grass will grow in wild profusion above thy head, the birds will sing as in years that are gone, the bright flowers will bloom again in the yellow sunshine. Children of each generation will play, and the joyous laughter will go on from year to year throughout the unnumbered years of time. Yet none will ever love you better than I, none ever any truer, we have never stood around the open grave of our loved ones, no, no, God spared us from that grief, until God in his wise providence called you to dwell with him.
Sleep on dear Sister take thy rest,
Your Lord and Master thought it best
To take thee from this world of care
To dwell with Saints immortal Fair
Mrs. Sophie S. Ewing
The Olathe Leader (Olathe, Kansas), 27 February 1890, p. 4
