James Kelley Tighe, age 85, of South Catherine St., Mount Vernon passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010 in his office at 104 East Vine St., Mount Vernon. He was born on April 13, 1925 in Mount Vernon to James W. Tighe and Margaret Kelley Tighe. He was a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, a graduate of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater on the USS Charles Ausburne, a destroyer in World War II. In July of 1946, James entered the James W. Tighe Insurance, Inc. with his father and later was President of James W. Tighe and Son Agency, Inc., and Vice President of Tighes' Insurance Agency, Inc.

He was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 847, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a member of Columbus Athletic Club, Shamrock Club of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Akron and West Side Irish American Club of Cleveland and a member the Mayo Society in Greater Cleveland. He was a former member of the Mount Vernon Country Club and the Old Homestead Club.

Mr. Tighe is survived by three sons, Terence J. Tighe of Mount Vernon, James W. (Leslie) Tighe, II of Lakewood, and Kevin J. (Deborah Bradshaw) Tighe of Columbus; two grandsons, Timothy C. and Michael J. Tighe; and several nieces and nephews.

Beside his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years on January 17, 2000, Helen Kaler Tighe; and a sister, Elizabeth Tighe Magnuson.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Saint Vincent de Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
