Mess Sergt. Charles Vernon Shumway

Son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Shumway of Lyons, Neb. He entered the U. S. Air Service at Ft. Omaha, December 18, 1917. He was assigned to the 18th Balloon Company. Promoted to Sergeant April 1, 1918 and to Mess Sergent May 1, 1918. He went overseas with his company October 21, 1918. On account of the sign-ing of the armistice he had no chance for active service. He returned to U. S. May 3, 1919 and was discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, May 19, 1919.
