Martha Moorman Moman was born in Bedford County, Virginia, to Jacob Moorman and Susannah Turner Moorman, on 13 July 1821, and departed this life in Jefferson Township, Maries County, Missouri, on 12 June 1900. The Moorman Family had traveled from Bedford County, Virginia, to Franklin County, Missouri, and eventually settled in Gasconade County. It was about this time that Martha and her brother Jake changed their surname Moorman to Moman. Martha met and married William Reeves Thompson in Bourbois Township, Gasconade County, Missouri, on 8 September 1836. Martha and William parented nine children, eight boys and one girl. Together, with their family, they farmed the land that they owned and provided a living for them all. When Maries County was officially formed in 1855, it is believed that where Martha and William's home was became a part of the new county without moving. They are still together.
