Attempts Suicide
Jacob Higdon, aged 45 years, shot himself in the right temple with a 22 caliber rifle at his home near Newpoint this afternoon. Higdon has been despondent for some time over his physical condition. Last spring he suffered a broken shoulder blade and since that time has been unable to do any labor, the fracture seeming not to improve.
Today while at home alone, he made the attempt on his life which bids fair to result fatally. Mrs. Higdon, upon her return home from a sale, found her husband lying upon a bed, clasping the rifle in his arms. He regained consciousness and told her what he had done. Help was at once summoned, but at present the outcome of his wound is uncertain.
Jacob Higdon is the youngest son of George Higdon and a nephew of Daniel and William Higdon, and has a wife and one son about eighteen years of age.
