Leah Anne Burton, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 31st at 12:12 a.m. after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. Leah's motto was to "fight like a girl" and she did just that throughout this long journey. Leah was surrounded by family during her final moments.

Leah Anne Eberle was born August 5, 1941, in Pattonsburg, Missouri, to Irvan and Francyl (Cooper) Eberle. Leah met the love of her life, Gary Burton, while attending Pattonsburg Public School where she graduated in 1959. Leah and Gary were united in marriage on September 4th of that same year. In 1968, Leah and Gary moved from Maitland, Missouri to Lancaster, Minnesota when Gary took a job with the Pipeline.

Leah devoted her life to not only her family, but also to Lancaster School, where she worked for over 35 years. Leah and Gary were involved in many community organizations such as the Lancaster Lions Club, and they volunteered many hours at the Lancaster Riverside Golf Club. In the early years, Leah and Gary enjoyed square and round dancing and were members of the Lancaster Square Dance Club. Leah was an active member of the Sion Lutheran Church.

Leah and Gary celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2009, surrounded by family and many friends.

Leah is survived by her true love and soul mate, Gary, her mother Francyl Eberle of Lancaster, her brother John Eberle, Lancaster.

Leah's life revolved around her children Shirley and Leland Swenson, Lancaster, Donald and Irene Burton, Lancaster, Pat and Donna Burton, Pembina, North Dakota, and Mendy and Randy Coffield, Lake Bronson, Minnesota. The lights of her life were her grandchildren Amber Conley, Lacey and Lance Lupien, Tyler Swenson and special friend Brittany Roman, and Cody Swenson, Kayla Fawcett and Samantha Burton, Whitney Coffield and fiancé Carl Christopherson, Brady Coffield and special friend Hayley Wilkens, and Trevor Coffield. Step grandchildren Steven and Tiffany Sjostrand, Darick and Tricia Sjostrand, Kayla and Matt Thompson. Great-grandchild Jazmyn Raysor.

Step great-grandchildren Morgan, Emma and Ellie Sjostrand, Olivia, Evy and Collin Sjostrand, Claire and Nulla Thompson.

Leah is proceeded in death by her father Irvan "Shorty" Eberle, her father and mother in law Lester and Fern Burton.

Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster.

Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery at Lancaster.

Visitation will be held at Sion Lutheran Church on Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
