John P. Houston, 1831-1871. A native of Alabama. Husband of Virginia M. Houston, 1840-1881. Graduated in 1853 from University of Louisville Medical College. Joined the Waco Medical Association in 1867. Practiced with Dr. J. H. Caldwell. Charter member of Central Christian Church. A Confederate veteran.

Dr. John P. Houston, was a native of Alabama, and at an early age began the study of medicine at Louisville, Ky. He began practicing in Florence, Alabama, and was there married to Miss Jennie Vaughan, also a native of that State. Soon after he returned to Texas, where he had formerly resided, practiced for a year or two in Cibolo Creek, and then moved to Waco, where he resided until his death in 1871. Jennie died there in 1880. Dr. Houston and his partner, Dr. Caldwell, were the leading physicians of the section, and were well and favorably known.
