MONTEREY -- Funeral services for George W. Whittaker, 84, of Monterey, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sand Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home.
Mr. Whittaker died Saturday, July 31, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 1, 1926, in Monterey to the late Vetter and Zonie Tays Whittaker.
Mr. Whittaker worked as a cabinet maker. He also worked for the Putnam County Road Department. He was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church.
His family includes his wife, Ruby Lucille Henry Whittaker of Monterey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Earl Beaty of Algood and Joyce and Ted Lowhorn of Monterey; a sister, Dimple Hodge of Rockwood; a half sister, Wanda Rhoten of Cookeville; a half brother, Freddie Whittaker of Sand Springs; three grandchildren, Billy Lowhorn of Monterey, Denise Mabe of Rickman and Deborah Robbins of Cookeville; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan Lowhorn of Monterey and Macie and Gavin Robbins, both of Cookeville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Cecil Wise and Dolly Buckner, and four brothers, Arnold, Vestal, Dave and Charles Whittaker.
Rev. Nolan Cantrell will officiate at the services.
