Mr. Gay, who had retired from Food Fair after 45 years, was a native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
Survivors include a sister, Vivian E. Ashe, and a brother, Dan Collon Gay Sr., both of Chesapeake; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at graveside in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan C. Gay Sr., 1320 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Fund.
