Margaret Simpson Heuman Mudd, 102, born Nov. 21, 1905, in Marigold, Ill., passed away at 7:55 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester, Ill.

Margaret led a very active life. She taught school in a one-room school before her marriage. She then was a homemaker and worked as a waitress and as a doctor receptionist before taking on the task of librarian at the Evansville Public Library. She was an avid quilter and loved to read. She was also a Stanley Dealer. She also loved history and genealogy and was a member of the Evansville Heritage Committee and one of the writers of the book "Evansville on the Kaskasia" in 1976 in observance of our nation's bicentennial. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, St. Boniface Altar Sodality, St. Boniface Quilting Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Evansville Senior Citizen's Club, Randolph County RSVP, Randolph County Rural Letter Carrier Auxiliary and held offices in many of these organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry E. and Mary Elizabeth, nee Whelan, Simpson; two husbands, Walter V. Heuman, whom she married on Nov. 15, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., and who died Oct. 4, 1968, and Arnold Mudd, whom she married on June 7, 1975, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Evansville, Ill., and who died July 9, 1996; a daughter, Anna Mae Hopley; three sons-in-law, Philip Hopley, Adam Becker and Charles Long; two grandsons, Keith Long and Steven Smith; four brothers, Robert, Claude, Roy and Eugene Simpson; and three sisters, Alice Scherle, Catherine Phegley and Sister Mary Simpson.

Surviving are her four daughters, Allene Becker and Wanda Long, both of Evansville, June (Roger) Smith of Effingham, Ill., and Lelia (Robert) DeRousse of Belleville, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Lillie Heuman of Waterloo, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, Margaret (Nick) Voke, Ronald (Kathy) Becker, Rosemary (James) Heinen, Eloise (Donald) Kueker, Debbie (Bill) Largent, Kevin (fiancee, Carla) Long, Mike Long, Robin Walter, David (Crystal) Smith, Judy (Rod) Wiethrop, Marilyn (Jim) Helton, Margaret (Dan) Shimkus and Bob B. (Ellen) DeRousse; 35 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18, at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Evansville.

A funeral Mass was held Saturday, Oct. 18, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, with Father John J. Joyce and Deacon Steve Pautler officiating.

Burial was at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Evansville.
