He was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Weare, the son of Eldon D. and Louise (Wunderlich) Byers. Mr. Byers was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He lived in Manchester for the past 50 years, and in 2003, he retired as a machinist with more than 40 years of service with Summit Packaging Systems.
Mr. Byers had a great love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed snowmobiling, three-wheelers and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Gene Byers, in 1989, and his wife, Sylvia A. (Pluff) Byers, in 1996.
Members of his family include two daughters, Beth Desmarais of Franklin and Brenda Niolet of Sarasota, Fla.; his son, Mark Byers of Manchester; four grandchildren, Crystal Byers, Michael Niolet, Andrew Byers and Deanna Desmarais; two step-grandchildren, Katrina and Grant Desmarais; two brothers, David Byers of Newport and James Byers of Hillsborough; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his three sisters, Joanne Martel, Lois Martel and Dorothy Clough.
Calling Hours will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 607 Chestnut St. in Manchester.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Goffstown Christian Fellowship, 67 Henry Bridge Road in Goffstown.
Urn burial with military honors will follow at Center Cemetery in Dunbarton
